What happens when two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s brightest minds collide for the very first time? In this precocious bit of comeuppance revealed in an all-new piece of footage from Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther’s Shuri drops the mic on Bruce Banner with a cold, cold vengeance — that’s what.
Thanks to Marvel’s super-close guard on the finer points of Infinity War’s plot, we can only guess at the larger context of what’s happening here. But what we do know is that Shuri (Letitia Wright) and Banner (Mark Ruffalo) are scan-diagnosing Vision (Paul Bettany) for some reason, and that Shuri’s more than one step ahead in reverse-engineering the work that Banner’s already done.
Check out the footage beginning at the 4:18 mark in this clip from Wright’s appearance to promote the movie on Good Morning America, and we’ll pick things up after the jump.
“I’m sure you did your best?” Oooooh — sick burn there, Shuri. Good thing Banner's learned, over the years, how to burn a longer fuse.
We’re not sure how Marvel will wrap Shuri into what promises to be the biggest character extravaganza ever to grace an MCU title, but we have our hopes — and our theories. As T’Challa’s younger sister, Wright gave Black Panther a multi-dimensional new upstart character whose engineering genius is rivaled only by her deadly aim. The promise of a long lifespan within the MCU, as well as a larger role, is strong — should Marvel decide to capitalize on her scene-stealing coolness.
Whatever Shuri starts in Avengers: Infinity War, we hope she finishes by the time the follow-up rolls around in May of 2019. But for now, we’ll take things one brain wave at a time: Infinity War opens on April 23.
