The beloved horror anthology Tales From the Crypt was coming back from the dead, but there’s been a fresh twist in the project’s development. Would you expect any less from an M. Night Shyamalan production?

Bloody Disgusting reports the Tales From the Crypt revamp has been stalled for a while now, due to lingering rights disputes and some alleged budget issues. After the initial report broke, a TNT representative chimed in and confirmed the network had run into some problems locking down the rights to the series. According to the source, the rights situation is “complicated,” though the studio is making progress and hopes to get the series back into active development soon.

But for now, it sounds like this one is heading back to the coffin. At least for a while. With M. Night Shyamalan at the helm, the series was set to be a flagship property in a new, original horror programming block on TNT. No word on what this delay means for that initiative, though we’d imagine it can’t bode well.

The show was originally scheduled to debut in late 2017. With production stalled indefinitely, they’ll obviously have a hard time hitting that target.
