With early renewal season among us, Fox has announced a whole batch of shows that will be coming back next fall. So did Fringe make the cut?

Sadly, no, the low-rated but awesome Fringe is not included in the announcement. It does note that comedies New Girl, Raising Hope and the drama Glee will be back. The shows join general hits Bones, The Simpsons, American Dad, Kitchen Nightmares and The X-Factor on the growing list of renewed series.

In a way, it could bode well for Fringe to see Raising Hope come back, as the sitcom wasn't really killing it in the ratings, either. So maybe it will be a merciful year.

J.J. Abrams' cult favorite Fringe has been teetering on the edge of cancellation for the past few seasons, though it continues to survive thanks to a devoted fan base and critical acclaim. The current rumor is that it could come back for a final, shortened season to make it more attractive for syndication--but no one knows for sure.

For what it's worth, the experts over at TV Line have upgraded Fringe's status from tossup to safe bet. So take that with a very hopeful grain of salt.

Sound off: Do you think Fox will pull a Chuck and give Fringe yet another reprieve?
