After blowing up the box office with Avatar, James Cameron has promised he'll make a ton of sequels soon—and according to star Sigourney Weaver, the Avatar extravaganza could kick off later this year.

Considering the CGI and expenses involved with making a proposed series of Avatar films, Cameron is keen to shoot as much as possible at one time for multiple films to cut down on costs.

Weaver told Bleeding Cool she has seen drafts for Avatar 2-3, and added a fourth film could also be rolled into the shooting schedule. Though work is slated to begin this fall, Weaver admitted she has no clue "how long it will take."

It could take years of work on the effects side to get these films put together, so it only makes sense that Cameron wants to get as much knocked out as possible so he can focus on the tech side—and considering his love for the new franchise, it's not much of a stretch to think he already has designs for a third sequel.

Sound off: Are you looking forward to a decade of Avatar sequels?
