It might not be the biggest movie he’s been involved with, but Shaun of the Dead is almost certainly Simon Pegg’s most beloved film. Well, there are actually plans for a sequel just sitting around somewhere in one of Pegg’s notebooks.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly looking back at the 2004 horror comedy’s legacy, Pegg revealed he “jokingly wrote a treatment” for a project he nicknamed From Dusk Till Shaun, which was a direct sequel to the first film. He said director Edgar Wright “thought it would be funny to do the film again, with vampires.” Sadly, it never evolved to anything more than “pub talk.”
Sadly, the project has remained on the shelf for years now, while Pegg, Wright and fellow collaborator Nick Frost have gone on to other projects like Hot Fuzz and The World’s End. But for a whole lot of fans, the Cornetto Trilogy peaked with that little slice of zombie wackiness. But there’s still hope! Frost joked that, “When it happens it’ll happen, and it’ll be great. Or people will hate it.” If it’s half as fun as the first film, we’d think fans would definitely be game to take a bite out of From Dusk Till Shaun.
What do you think? Is the first film perfect as-is, or would you like to see more of Shaun’s adventures in the post-apocalypse? This time, with vampires?
