Some new, behind-the-scenes footage from X-Men: Days of Future Past has been released, with Bryan Singer talking about his long-awaited return to the franchise.

With his work on X-Men and X-2 back in the early 2000s, Singer helped kickstart the modern comic-book renaissance before passing the franchise torch for the past few films. But the original visionary is back, and we’d be lying if we said we weren’t excited to see what Singer can do with one of the series’ most ambitious storylines.

So why did Singer come back? Because he wanted to work with the First Class cast, and hang out with his old pals in the original team, and the idea behind Days of Future Past was just too cool to pass up. Check out the interview below, along with some awesome behind-the-scenes footage from the absolutely epic set:

X-Men: Days of Future Past opens May 23. Are you glad Singer is back in the saddle?
