Freeform has become a bastion for intriguing genre content in recent years, including fantasy hit Shadowhunters. Now, even as it prepares to launch shows like Marvel's Cloak & Dagger, it's got even more genre fare to offer. This week, the network provided new details on its upcoming mermaid drama, Siren.
According to Deadline, the series will be set in a town called Bristol Cove, which has a history of mermaid legends. When a strange young woman (Eline Powell) appears and starts causing chaos, a team of marine biologists (Alex Roe and Fola Evans-Akingbola) must investigate exactly what she is and how she got here. And, perhaps more important: Are there more of her?
As this new sneak peek makes plain, the sleek and beautiful mermaids you're used to seeing are clearly capable of something much more dangerous. And then there's the aspect of the title: siren. Do they have some kind of seductive call, as in the Greek myths? Are we unable to resist them? We don't yet know much about this series, but it's an intriguing idea.
Siren premieres March 29 on Freeform.
