Siren's Eline Powell: Mermaids are open to polyamory

We're a long way from Splash, folks. In a Q&A at today's Siren panel at San Diego's Comic-Con, star Eline Powell couldn't resist letting fans in on where she thinks Freeform's dark fantasy series about mermaids is headed in its upcoming sophomore season.

When an audience member asked her about a scene in Season 1 when her mermaid character Ryn got into bed with Ben (Alex Roe) and Ben's girlfriend Maddie (Fola Evans-Akingbola), leading her to wonder whether mermaids are polyamorous, Powell laughed. Then after a quick glance at her executive producers Eric Wald and Emily Whitesell, the actress replied that mermaids "are a sensual species" and they're basically open to the idea.

Talk about going deep!

For his part, Wald added that love triangles are very important for the show to explore as a key story component.

And, as avid viewers know, the writers haven't been shy about it ever since Ryn walked out of the sea, met the marine biologist Ben and enlisted he and Maddie to help her find her sister.

Freeform has yet to announce a premiere date for Season 2 of Siren, but if the reaction in the Indigo Ballroom is any indication, the water's warm and getting hotter.
