Not unlike a zombie, The Walking Dead: The Final Season is back from the dead.
After news that original developer Telltale Games was laying off employees, casting doubt on future projects, Skybound Games announced it would be taking over production of The Final Season. Now, in a statement released earlier today, Robert Kirkman's company has provided some further details about the game.
According to the statement, Episodes 3 and 4 will have release dates announced shortly. It also indicates that previous seasons will be available to purchase online again "soon," though there may be some short-term issues until Skybound irons out the transition.
Telltale is now officially shuttered, and Skybound has come in to finish The Final Season. They've even hired many programmers who worked on The Walking Dead game initially to help out.
"It’s been a ton of work logistically and legally to get us to a place where we’re able to roll up our sleeves and get to the actual work. After Telltale shut its doors, the game was, unfortunately, unable to be worked on and hence the release dates of Episodes 3 and 4 have been delayed. But, we’re excited to let you know that many of the talented, passionate team members who originally worked on the game are resuming development efforts today!"
The statement also indicates that those who previously purchased Season 4 won't have to pay again, and previous episodes will once again be available "as soon as they're released." Skybound's CEO had previously said that he hoped the upcoming third episode will be out by the end of 2018.
