The first Walking Dead game already swept virtually every “Best of the Year” category in existence—and now we finally have our first official look at the next zombie-filled experience set in Robert Kirkman’s playground.
No, this isn’t a sequel to Telltale Games’ beloved episodic game (though that is reportedly in the works). But Terminal Reality is putting the finishing touches on the unrelated Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, which will follow TV characters Merle and Daryl Dixon in the early days on the zombie invasion.
Unlike the episodic game, which built tension through tough decisions and their inevitable consequences, Survival Instinct is a more straightforward first-person shooter. Daryl and Merle need to survive, and the zombies need killing. It’s as simple as that.
This trailer thankfully looks a lot better than some early footage that leaked out a while back, which was apparently lifted from a very early build of the game. The game shown here definitely sets the Walking Dead mood with walkers everywhere, and looks to represent the wild pace that departing showrunner Glen Mazzara has made a staple of the show’s third season.
Survival Instinct is expected to hit shelves on March 22 for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. Until then, check out the trailer below:
