One of the most anticipated bits of Peter Jackson's Hobbit trilogy has been the epic dragon Smaug, which J.R.R. Tolkien fans have been dying to see on the big screen for decades. Now we have our first glimpse at the mighty creature in action.
A new trailer has rolled out for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, showing Smaug, voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock), laying waste to a Middle-earth city with fire and brimstone.
Yes, it's just a second or so of footage, but it's awesome.
This also seems to answer the lingering question of exactly which film will introduce the mighty dragon, who was rumored to be bumped to the second film after The Hobbit expanded into a trilogy.
Judging by this, we'll get our fair share of fire-breathing on Dec. 14, after all.
