We’ve heard a lot of ideas bounced around for potential Star Wars spinoffs, but now a star from the prequel trilogy is making his own pitch for a new film. So what adventure does Ewan McGregor think Obi-Wan should take on?
In an interview with MTV, McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars prequels) said he would love to return for the new trilogy or a spinoff film set outside the “major” releases. Disney is reportedly looking at everyone from Yoda to young Han Solo and Boba Fett for inspiration, so it’s more than possible that a standalone Obi-Wan adventure could be on the table.
McGregor even has an idea for what direction the spinoff could take, focusing on Obi-Wan in the years between the two trilogies. That era is a little murky in the film canon and leaves a lot of wiggle room for some seasoned Jedi missions:
"I think it's a good idea. The only bit that I could get away with doing is after the last one I made, 'Episode III,' before Alec Guinness [played Obi-Wan in the original films], there's that period where he's in the desert.
That might be my window, there, to tell that story. I don't know what he did in the desert. We could make up some stuff. Could be quite exciting. I'd be up for it, for sure, of course."
Obi-Wan was one of the coolest characters from the entire Star Wars universe, and a film focused on a salty old Jedi kicking ass and taking names could actually be pretty awesome. You could pull off a good cowboy-style character study that could be interesting, taking a closer look at the man and his mission.
Would you like to see a standalone Obi-Wan adventure?
