Was anyone expecting Solo: A Star Wars Story to experience franchise fatigue on the heels of The Last Jedi? This is the first time that a new Star Wars film has come out within six months of the previous installment. But if presales are any indication, fans are more than ready to revisit their favorite space scoundrel.
Via The Hollywood Reporter, Fandango and Atom Tickets have revealed that Solo has already become the number 2 movie of the year for advance tickets. After 24 hours, Solo is ahead of Black Panther and only trailing Avengers: Infinity War. Fandango added that Solo doubled the Black Panther advance sales within the first 24 hours.
That is a very promising sign for Solo’s box office prospects. Earlier this week, the early projections for Solo had it coming in at around $170 million for the four-day Memorial Day weekend. That would place it above Rogue One, but well below The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.
However, Solo’s numbers are likely to go up between now and its official opening on May 25. As part of the sustained push for Solo, the new Lando, Donald Glover, is coming on Saturday Night Live this weekend as the host and the musical guest. SNL just couldn’t resist reworking the early Solo posters to promote Glover’s appearance on May 5.
We wouldn’t be too shocked if some of Glover’s co-stars from Solo make cameo appearances as well.
Solo: A Star Wars Story will be soaring into theaters on May 25. Will you be contributing to its opening weekend haul?
