Solo star Alden Ehrenreich on the all-encompassing advice Harrison Ford gave him

Although Harrison Ford made a fairly definitive exit from the Star Wars franchise in The Force Awakens, many fans wondered if the veteran actor would impart some of his experience as Han Solo to Alden Ehrenreich, the young performer who will take over the legendary role in Solo: A Star Wars Story. According to Ehrenreich, Ford never made it out to the set. However, he did get a chance to meet the cinematic icon.

SYFY WIRE spoke to Ehrenreich at the red carpet for Solo’s world premiere in Los Angeles Thursday night, where he said that Ford gave him a very specific message. “He didn’t visit the set,” said Ehrenreich. “But we sat down for lunch before shooting and he told me, ‘If anyone asks, tell them I told you everything you need to know, and you're not allowed to say anything.’”

That may not have been the advice that fans wanted Ford to share, but it could have been his way of keeping Ehrenreich from overthinking the part. On the red carpet live stream, Donald Glover spoke about the similarly vague advice he received from the original Lando Calrissian, Billy Dee Williams. Glover indicated that Williams simply said "I walked in and I was Lando."

Glover went on to note that he did exactly that. "That was all I really could do. I was very fortunate to actually get that kind of a response because it was very simple...I didn't have to overthink it. It was really nice.”

Solo: A Star Wars Story will be released on Friday, May 25.
