A broken heart has been the inspiration for countless tales, although few of them have involved time travel. That is, until now.
In the new trailer for the upcoming Time Freak, Sophie Turner looks to further break out of the Game of Thrones mold as a girl who breaks a guy's heart, which inspires in him an extraordinary willingness to disrupt the space-time continuum in order to win her back.
Turner plays Debbie, who breaks up with her boyfriend, Stillman, played by Asa Butterfield (Ender's Game, Hugo). Given that Stillman's a genius at physics, he channels his heartbreak to create a time machine so he can go back to the beginning of their relationship and get things right the first time. Or second time, whatever.
For good measure, he takes his best friend, Evan (Skyler Gisondo) along for the ride as the two try to Quantum Leap their respective love lives.
Even though Turner has a career outside of Game of Thrones, most notably as young Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse and the upcoming Dark Phoenix, it seems like she could be experimenting with different roles outside of traditional genre to try and avoid typecasting once the HBO show concludes next year.
Butterfield has also been a genre staple, with the lead role in film adaptations like Ender's Game and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. Like Turner, he's branched out into the genre-oriented romantic comedy before, notably 2016's The Space Between Us.
Time Freak will be released in limited theaters on Nov. 9, as well as a same-day VOD release, in case it's not playing anywhere close to where you live.
