Marvel Studios pretty much blew fans’ minds with the reveal that Captain Marvel’s solo film will be set in the 1990s, and now we’ve learned what that’ll mean for the next big Avengers team-up.
The Playlist reports that Infinity War co-director Joe Russo answered a question about Carol Danvers’ potential involvement in the film with a point-blank response: “She is not in Avengers 3.” Of course, he doesn’t mention the fourth Avengers film that’ll follow it, but still, it sounds like we’ll have to wait until Captain Marvel’s solo flick in 2019 to see Brie Larson in action.
After learning Captain Marvel’s origin story will play out in the era of a two-eyed Nick Fury (complete with Skrulls), it’s not much of a surprise to hear she won’t show up for the face-off (or at least the first part of the face-off) with Thanos. Marvel has to explain how Captain Marvel has been around a couple of decades without actually showing up over the past several years, and it stands to reason that story will be explained in her origin film. The timeline also matches up, since Captain Marvel opens just a couple of months before Avengers 4 in 2019.
Are you bummed we won’t meet Captain Marvel in Infinity War? Do you think she’ll show up in Avengers 4?
