The Terminator wheel of destiny continues to spin, and it looks like that long-threatened fifth installment might finally move ahead after all. The studio that currently holds the rights to the series has tweeted some tantalizing news—including a tidbit that could hint at where they're going next.
Annapurna Pictures, the studio behind Zero Dark Thirty and The Master, has tweeted that "news is coming" in regard to the Terminator franchise. A sequel has been lingering out there for a while now, and you'd have to think it'll happen at some point.
They packaged that tease with one of the most famous quotes from Terminator 2 (aka the best entry in the franchise):
"The whole thing goes: The future's not set. There's no fate but what we make for ourselves." -John Connor. Now if that doesn't get your Spidey sense tingling, nothing else will. But what does it mean? It's hard to say. Obviously, after the PG-13 mess that was Terminator: Salvation, they're trying to remind fans of the potential that this franchise still holds.
But, it could also mean they're looking to T2 for inspiration, which would be a very good place to start. Here's hoping Annapurna's idea for John Connor's "fate" turns out better than the last two sequels.
Plus, Arnold Schwarzenegger is making the rounds at the box office, and if Annapurna can actually get a good script together it stands to reason he'd be willing to come back.
