It has been 11 years since we've last seen Thomas Haden Church in a superhero movie. Church played Sandman in Sam Raimi's ambitiously bloated Spider-Man 3. Love it or hate it, he was born for that role—and Church played a convincing working-class misunderstood thug blessed with the power to become a killer sandbox. Thankfully, Church has since moved on and currently stars alongside Sarah Jessica Parker in HBO's Divorced. But it was only a matter of time until we'd see him in another comic book movie.

During a candid interview with JoBlo, the Primetime Emmy award-winning actor revealed that he acted in a superhero genre film that wrapped last year:

“I’m not supposed to talk about it, but I actually have returned, but not in the Marvel world, it’s another world, but it is in that genre of superheroes and supervillains. I’m not supposed to talk about it, it’s a movie I shot last year. They’re trying to keep it -- and good luck to ‘em -- with, y’know, today man, I’m surprised it hasn’t already kinda been revealed.”

So, we know it's not in the "Marvel world." It's hard to keep track of all the colossal-budget superhero films in production, but we have some ideas. Warner Bros. has been remarkably quiet about the standalone Aquaman film starring Jason Momoa, Nicole Kidman, and Willem Dafoe. Atlantis is big enough to house a big fish like Church. There's a lot of sand at the bottom of that ocean.

The other suspect is the Hellboy remake? Maybe he will be the next Abe Sapien? If he gets enough retweets David Harbour will be required to make it happen.

Which superhero film do you expect to see Church in next? Post your guess in the comments!
