A few months ago, a report over at JoBlo claimed Michael Keaton’s Vulture wouldn’t be the only villain in town when Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into movie theaters and that he’d have help from the Tinkerer, who’ll “help him build his suit with recovered Chitauri tech from the Battle of New York” that took place during The Avengers.
They were right on the money because according to Deadline, Michael Chernus (Captain Phillips, The Bourne Legacy, Manhattan, Orange Is the New Black) has joined Marvel Studios and Sony’s Spidey movie as Phineas Mason, aka the Tinkerer, and will play the villainous role alongside the former Batman actor.
In the pages of the Marvel comics, the Tinkerer is a genius in engineering of almost superhuman levels who can create high-tech gadgets with nothing but spare parts of household appliances. He’s a bad guy MacGyver.
Directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car), Spider-Man: Homecoming stars Tom Holland, Robert Downey Jr., Zendaya, Michael Barbieri, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Kenneth Choi, Martin Starr, Donald Glover, Logan Marshall-Green, Marisa Tomei and Michael Keaton.
The superhero film set to open on July 7, 2017 is being produced by Marvel Head Honcho Kevin Feige and Sony’s Amy Pascal, with Eric Hauserman Carroll co-producing.
What do you think of Michael Chernus joining the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming in the role of the Tinkerer?
