Stan Lee says fans are right on how Marvel can fix Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

One of the biggest complaints about Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. revolves around the fact that, for a super-show, it’s not actually very “super.” Well, comic legend Stan Lee has a few ideas on how to fix that.

In a recent interview with Zap2It, Lee agreed with what the most vocal chorus of fans is saying, which is that the series needs a few legit heroes to join the ranks. But if it were up to Stan, the series would turn into a full-fledged mini-version of The Avengers

Check out the excerpt below:

“It could end up being like The Avengers. It could be an umbrella under which a lot of superheroes will come in. They haven't really done that yet, but I think they will eventually. ’S.H.I.E.L.D. could be a way of bringing in a lot of superheroes and villains together, and I think they will eventually get to that point...I have no favorites. I love them all. The more they can crowd into it, the better I'd like it.

Years ago, there was a show on television called The Man From U.N.C.L.E. I wanted to get something like that, but more superhero-ish, so I came up with SHIELD. There was a character we had called Sergeant Fury and his Howling Commandos. That was a book we did of World War II. And then we stopped it after a while, and a lot of readers said, 'Where is Sergeant Fury now?’ So I thought, wow, it would be great to say that today he's a colonel, and he's the head of S.H.I.E.L.D.! So it all came together with Colonel Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D.”

Judging by the fact that Mike Peterson (J. August Richards) is poised to become the small-screen version of Deathlok, it looks like they might finally be addressing that problem — but it’ll take a lot more than one mid-tier character to fix all those lingering issues.

What do you think? When Stan drops by for his cameo, should they also let him stop by the writers room?
