Director Ava DuVernay’s (Selma) upcoming big-screen adaptation of author Madeleine L’Engle’s 1963 award-winning classic fantasy novel A Wrinkle in Time (for the House of Mouse) has added two genre actors to its cast.

Star Trek and Wonder Woman actor Chris Pine and Doctor Who’s Gugu Mbatha-Raw have come on board as the parents of our young heroine, Meg Murry (Storm Reid). According to Deadline, Chris Pine will play Dr. Alex Murry, the physicist father whose disappearance years earlier has traumatized our young heroine, while Variety reports that Gugu Mbatha-Raw will play microbiologist Dr. Kate Murry, Meg’s mom. They join a cast that includes Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey and Mindy Kaling, and filming should begin before the end of the year.

Disney’s adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time follows the story of Meg Murry, “a young girl traumatized by the disappearance of her scientist father years before. She finds herself on an interplanetary journey with a schoolmate and her younger brother to find her father. They are aided by a trio of supernatural beings, Mrs. Whatsit (Witherspoon), Mrs. Who (Kaling) and Mrs. Which (Winfrey),” meeting some fantastical creatures during their journey.

What do you think of the casting of Chris Pine and Gugu Mbatha-Raw in A Wrinkle in Time?
