With Star Trek Beyond set to hit the big screen in just four months, the film is headed back for some reshoots to add a brand-new character to serve as the High Command of the Federation.

Deadline reports that Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse, 24) has signed on in a new role created for the latest Trek sequel, which is being added to the narrative just a few months before the scheduled release on July 22. Aghdashloo is likely best known to sci-fi fans for her role as Chrisjen Avasarala in The Expanse. No word on exactly how the addition fits in, or how big a role she may play, though it’s kind of strange to see a whole new character (especially one played by an Emmy winner) added so late in the game.

But, on the flip side, it’s encouraging to see the creative team realize the character is apparently needed and make the change. Aghdashloo is a fantastic actress, and however this role shakes out, she should make an excellent addition to the cast.

The film is being directed by Justin Lin, with J.J. Abrams still attached to produce.
