A fan favorite from the Star Trek universe and many other TV shows and films is joining the cast of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2.
The official Hunger Games Twitter feed posted the news today that Michelle Forbes was taking on the role of Lieutenant Jackson in the fourth and final film based on the series of novels by Suzanne Collins. Forbes may be best known to genre fans as Ensign Ro Laren, the fiery Bajoran Starfleet officer who appeared in eight episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation during the show's fifth, sixth and seventh seasons. Ensign Ro was supposed to transition over to Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, but Forbes turned down the job and a new Bajoran officer, Kira Nerys, was created instead.
Forbes' other major genre TV credits include playing Adm. Helena Cain on Battlestar Galactica and a Maenad on the second season of True Blood, along with recurring or guest roles on Lost, 24, Prison Break, The Outer Limits, Homicide: Life on the Street and others. Her film appearances have included Kalifornia, Swimming With Sharks and Escape From L.A.
Jackson is listed at the Hunger Games Wiki as a soldier in District 13's Squad 451, a special team of rebel sharpshooters that also includes Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, Gale Hawthorne and others. She is described as looking "kind of sluggish" -- not what Forbes brings to mind at all -- and farsighted. The character seems to be a minor one, but hopefully Forbes will make a memorable impression.
Both parts of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay are shooting now under the direction of Francis Lawrence, with Forbes, Julianne Moore, Natalie Dormer, Gwendoline Christie and Robert Knepper joing regulars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Jena Malone and Donald Sutherland. Part 1 arrives on Nov. 21, 2014, but you'll have until Nov. 20, 2015, to see Forbes in Part 2.
