As Star Trek: Discovery heads to its second season on CBS All Access, it also enters into equally hallowed ground in the Trekkie canon: spin-off media. Specifically, it’s seeing some of its story and characters come to long-running (but not World of Warcraft long-running) MMORPG Star Trek Online after versions of the show recently lent their characters and visuals to STO and the Star Trek VR game.
In a release, Perfect World Entertainment Inc. and Cryptic Studios announced that Star Trek Online would be adding a multi-part story arc entitled Age of Discovery that would implement Star Trek: Discovery characters (like Starfleet Academy Cadet Sylvia Tilly, voiced by Mary Wiseman) and missions to the game. That’s far more than the mere costume options previously representing the Discovery-verse.
Players will be able to “create a Federation Captain from Star Trek: Discovery,” make use of the game’s expanded Reputation System, defend Starbase 1, and take part in a Discovery era tutorial along with two new episodes in the first installment of the arc’s release.
A short trailer, which you can watch below, highlights the incoming threat:
This threat is one that takes players to the year 2256, right after a Klingon war has ended and the future of the Alpha Quadrant is up for grabs. Thankfully players will have Cadet Tilly and each other to rely on in the coming months (or whenever the game’s expansion actually sees the light of day).
The release date for Age of Discovery’s first installment on the game’s PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 versions will be announced later this year.
