Filmmaker David Karlak has been developing his ambitious sci-fi flick Rise at Warner Bros. for four years, and now he’s finally debuted a pitch reel to show off what he’s putting together. Fair warning: It looks really, really good.

The five-minute proof of concept stars Anton Yelchin (Star Trek) as an android who is being hunted by a military leader played by Rufus Sewell (The Man in the High Castle). The CGI effects are fantastic for a short, and the footage does a serviceable job of introducing the big ideas behind the concept. Long story short, an android killed a human in self-defense, so now humans have declared all out war on the robots. But the ‘bots are fighting back.

Here’s the official synopsis:

In the near future, sentient robots are targeted for elimination after they develop emotional symmetry to humans and a revolutionary war for their survival begins.

As for the actual status of the project, there’s no real information on where it stands in the development process. Heck, we don’t even know if Yelchin and Sewell are actually attached for the big-screen version. But it looks fantastic — and if Karlak can ever get it fully off the ground — this could certainly make for a unique sci-fi tale a few years down the line.
