The award-winning Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is getting a spiffy new outer-space update by loyal fans of the classic 2003 video game.  Star Wars: Apeiron is a collective amateur effort to revamp Bioware's iconic RPG using the more modern Unreal Engine 4.  Quite a lofty goal considering this was an impressive game to begin with, even 13 years ago, but huge advancements in gaming technology may make this remake a successful endeavor.  While still in the beginning stages, the project has produced some revisualized environments that certainly get our attention.  Even though the earnest developers are not trying to profit from this ambitious task and will offer the game for free, there are still some legal stumbling blocks to overcome.

Here's Apeiron's description of their noble effort to add a digital gloss to an already legendary game:

“Apeiron is a reboot of the Knights of the old Republic that was released in 2003. Apeiron is a remake and remastering of the original game with added content, new worlds, missions, HUD, inventory, items, and companions.”

Have a peek at the fresh cityscapes and exteriors in the gallery below and tell us if you think Disney might crush this Knights of the Old Republic reboot before it hatches. And definitely check out KOTOR, if you never have -- it's one of the better Star Wars stories told in the past 20 years.
