Darth Maul voice actor Sam Witwer revealed that another of his Star Wars characters almost made it on Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels.

Speaking during a Twitch stream event, Sam Witwer (Being Human) said Rebels showrunner Dave Filoni almost included the very cool character of Starkiller from The Force Unleashed video games, which Witwer voiced and mo-capped.

Now, as a huge fan of said games, I have to admit this is a great piece of trivia. Alas, this wasn’t meant to be — no doubt due to the complicated nature of canon and such (the games were part of the Star Wars Extended Universe canon, which was wiped almost clean when Disney bought Lucasfilm, with the exception of Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was made part of the official canon in Star Wars Rebel).

“Dave [Filoni] did share with me, by the way, he considered making Starkiller an Inquisitor in Star Wars: Rebels. It didn’t quite fit the story they were telling, but he did think about it because he thought that would be interesting.”

In The Force Unleashed (set between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope), players got to kick some @$$ as Galen Marek, aka Starkiller, a super powerful Force-wielder discovered by Darth Vader as a child, with the Sith Lord taking him on as his secret apprentice.

Starkiller became Vader’s weapon, killing off the last of the Jedi by himself in the wake of Order 66 at the end of the Clone Wars. Long story short, when the Emperor learned of Starkiller, he ordered Vader to kill his apprentice, only for Starkiller to be ultimately revived as a clone by Darth Vader. Had they brought him into Rebels, they would've almost certainly had to strip down much of what made Starkiller so interesting in the first place.

What do you think of Starkiller almost appearing in Star Wars Rebels?
