Have you been watching Star Wars Rebels? It’s a weekly Star Wars treat in bite-sized chunks of 22 minutes each. Although the first two seasons focused on Ezra Bridger and his Padawan training, Season 3 has spent time on a character who deserves development, Sabine Wren.
When first we met the Mandalorian, she was a scrappy explosives expert with a penchant for graffiti. Now she's evolving into something more deep and compelling. She's just taken possession of the Darksaber, a black-bladed lightsaber built by the galaxy's first Mandalorian Jedi. And it looks as if she will use it to reunite her fractured homeworld against the Empire.
But first she has to start mending fences at home. Not easy for a young woman in a family of Imperial loyalists who deserted the Imperial Academy.
In the clip below, Sabine returns to Mandalore, bringing the Darksaber with her. It's quite a thing to behold. Lightsabers are typically animated with a softly colored glow; the Darksaber, on the other hand, crackles white with electricity. If she can't impress her family, then perhaps the Darksaber will.
Will Sabine convince the Mandos to follow her? Only time, and the upcoming episode, "The Legacy of Mandalore," will tell. Watch it on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. on Disney XD.
