The animated series Star Wars: Rebels has evolved into a worthy addition to the franchise's canon, and now Disney XD is bringing it back for a fourth season.
There had been rumblings that the series might meet its natural conclusion after Season 3, but now the Ghost crew will officially be sticking around for a few more missions . Production is already underway on the fourth season, which is set to premiere later this year. The series has introduced several connections to the main canon over the past few seasons, with everyone from Saw Gerrera to Princess Leia showing up along the way. The third season has introduced classic Expanded Universe baddie Grand Admiral Thrawn to the official canon with fantastic results.
"The team behind Star Wars Rebels delivers epic storytelling that has captivated fans of all ages across the globe,"Disney XD's senior vice president of programming Marc Buhaj said. "We're excited to continue sharing the journey of these fan-favorite Rebels with our audience in the fall."
As the series continues to bump up closer and closer to the events of Rogue One and A New Hope, it'll be interesting to see just how many threads the writers introduce over Season 4. The renewal certainly offers up some breathing room, and here's hoping the creative team takes full advantage.
Are you glad the series will be coming back? What do you think of Season 3 of Rebels?
