If you’ve been wondering why everyone is out to catch Benedict Cumberbatch in Star Trek Into Darkness, the latest trailer finally answers the question.
The international trailer is packed with new footage, most of which focuses on Cumberbatch’s John Harrison doing everything in his power to burn Starfleet to the ground. The first film has its fair share of action, but Into Darkness looks to crank the carnage up to 11.
We also get our first look at Peter Weller (RoboCop) as a Starfleet leader, holding a meeting about catching Cumberbatch. Which, not surprisingly, is then attacked by Cumberbatch. Weller seems like a good fit for the role, and brings a grizzled intensity that fits the tone for the sequel.
This is easily the most revealing trailer of the bunch, and J.J. Abrams seems to finally be peeling back some layers as we hit the home stretch before the film’s May 17 release date.
