The Stargate franchise is set to finally return in early 2018, and with shooting wrapped on Stargate Origins, we have some fresh footage from the 10-episode prequel project.

MGM has dropped a new behind-the-scenes trailer showing several minutes of new footage from the series, with the cast in action in front of some sweeping shots of the stunning location shots. This might be a web series on the Stargate Command platform, but the production values look to be right up there with what fans have come to expect from the franchise.

Little is known about the story of Stargate Origins, aside from the fact that it focuses on a young Catherine Langford (Ellie Gall) and her father Professor Langford (Connor Trinneer) back when the Stargate was first discovered in Egypt. The supporting cast includes British Army officer Captain Beal (Philip Alexander) and Wasif (Shvan Aladdin), who look to be allies to Catherine.

Whatever story this show will tell, the pressure is on for the creative team to gracefully fit this prequel tale into the extensive canon established over a decade in Stargate SG-1. There’s also a mountain of hype and hope from fans starved to see something fresh from this franchise, which has already spanned a movie, three TV series, and two straight-to-DVD films.

Stargate: Origins is set to premiere in early 2018 on Stargate Command.
