As some of you may already know, Casper Van Dien will reprise the role of Johnny Rico for Sony Pictures’ upcoming CG movie Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars, and SYFY WIRE got the chance to sit down with the cast and creative team behind the film at San Diego Comic-Con.
In the video interview below with original Starship Troopers writer Ed Neumeier, star Casper Van Dien, producer Tony Ishizuka, and director Shinji Aramaki, we chatted about the lasting power of the franchise, which has been going strong for more than 20 years.
Van Dien also discussed how Rico has been part of his daily life for two decades, while Ishizuka added that making Traitor of Mars in CG allowed them to maintain the same feel and quality from the first film (since, coincidentally, sci-fi movies do cost a lot of money). Neumeier also spoke about the challenges of creating a fresh story for the movie, saying that a new war with the bugs allowed them to come up with plenty of new material.
Also back in the movie (but not present here) is Dina Meyer as the voice of Dizzy Flores. I can’t wait to see how they’re going to explain her presence in the film, since she died in the first movie.
Have a look at the interview below, then let us know if you're ready for some more bug-smashing action.
Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars will come to a theater near you for a special one-night event on Aug. 21.
