Starz reveals the Season 2 villain for Ash vs. Evil Dead

With Ash vs. Evil dead poised to unleash a fresh batch of deadites on our TV screens in less than two months, Starz has finally announced who will be the next Big Bad everyone’s favorite boomstick-wielding aging lothario, Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell), his faithful sidekicks Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) -- as well as Ruby (Lucy Lawless) -- will go toe-to-toe with.

Starz has revealed that actor Joel Tobeck (Hercules: The Legendary Journey, Sons of Anarchy) has joined the cast in the role of Baal, a demon from the underworld described as “an enemy more powerful than any that have come before.”

It looks like Baal has a much bigger goal than just killing Ash, and we’re told that he also shares a “secret link to Ruby.” From the looks of things (aka the pic below), it’s pretty clear Baal and Ruby’s relationship is antagonistic and this could be the reason why she joins forces with Team Ash in Season 2.

The second season roars back into action with Ash leaving his beloved Jacksonville and returning to his hometown of Elk Grove. There, he confronts Ruby. The former enemies have to form an uneasy alliance as Elk Grove soon becomes the nucleus of evil.

The show’s second season will also introduce us to Ash’s dad, Brock Williams (Lee Majors), Ash’s childhood best friend, Chet Kaminski (Ted Raimi), and Ash’s high school sweetheart Linda (Michelle Hurd). You can see them in the red-band trailer below.

The first episode of Season 2 was screened at San Diego Comic-Con, and Nerdist says that Baal was MIA from any of the footage that was shown to fans, but that the premiere reveals what Ash, Pablo and Kelly have been doing since the Season 1 finale, when Ash traded in the Necronomicon to Ruby in exchange for a shaky truce, gas money and a trip to his dream destination of Jacksonville, Fla.

The hotly anticipated second season of Ash vs. Evil Dead is slated to premiere on Oct. 2 on Starz.
