Twihards have been waiting for Breaking Dawn for years, and after three movies (and books) filled with endless longing, we finally get Edward and Bella's wedding ... and Edward and Bella's wedding night. The director, Bill Condon, must have been excited too. Maybe a little too excited.
According to CNN, star Kristen Stewart says that the honeymoon scene was so racy that it originally earned the movie an R rating. In fact, Stewart was shocked by what she saw on screen.
"There are two big sex scenes in the two [final] films, and we did them fairly early," Stewart, 21, tells the U.K. edition of Glamour. "It was so weird, it didn't even feel like we were doing a scene within a 'Twilight' film. I was like, 'Bella! What are you doing? Wow! What is happening here?!' It was very surreal."
Obviously the film went back to the cutting room, because it's currently a reasonably family-friendly PG-13.
Producers prefer PG-13 ratings because teen viewers can attend without a guardian, whereas with an R rating, young viewers have to attend accompanied ... and who really wants to see a Twilight movie with mom and dad?
If Summit Entertainment wants to sate the now-burning curiosity of Twilight fans, it will show the extended version of that scene when Breaking Dawn is released on DVD and Blu-ray.
