After diving into magic and some hard sci-fi the past couple of years, the fifth season of The CW’s Arrow is looking to get back to basics. So what can fans expect this fall?
While speaking at the Heroes & Villains FanFest, series star Stephen Amell opened up about how the relationship between Oliver and Felicity will evolve over the new season. The couple went through a brutal breakup in Season 4 but ended the season once again as friends prepared to take on the baddies of Star City. Amell hedged on whether Olicity will get back together, and also promised they’ll return to the core mission of the series (with the addition of a new gangster baddie played by Chad Coleman).
Here’s an excerpt from his comments:
“I was chatting with a couple of fans earlier and they were saying there hasn’t been a lot of positivity and reassuring notions when it comes to Oliver and Felicity’s relationship. I think that it’s important to remember that relationships on the show don’t have to be only defined by romance. Oliver and Felicity could have a wonderful, fulfilling, dynamic relationship and not be together, right? That wasn’t a question, OK. That’s how the world works! So we will see where they are this year…
The villain that we are introducing is a direct result of things that Oliver has done in Star City [and] calls back to a lot of things that happened in the first season of the show. It really grounds the show and really focuses on its core value, which is the battle to save Star City. The first two episodes [of season 5] refocuses us on what the core mission of the show should be, and that to me is very exciting. Plus? Russia.”
Arrow returns this fall to The CW.
What do you think will happen with Olicity this fall? Did you like the direction of the past few seasons?
