Despite some terrible reviews, last year’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles flick proved to be a box-office juggernaut — so a sequel is on the way. We don’t know much about what the followup will entail, but Arrow alum Stephen Amell has dropped a few hints about his new-look version of Casey Jones.
In a move that can only be described as spot-on casting, Amell joined the project as the hockey-mask-wearing vigilante a while back. In a chat with IGN, he opened up about how this adaptation of the character may differ from what comic (and cartoon) fans have come to expect. It sounds like we’ll have a more mature version of Casey Jones here as he takes up the hockey mask after being pushed to the brink by society.
Here’s an excerpt from his comments:
"It's certainly not your father's or your younger self's Casey Jones, but that's because we meet him at a very different time in his development. He is not the Casey Jones that a lot of comic fans have come to know and love. He is a guy with a job that lives in New York and loves hockey. When things go awry, [and] when he goes through the normal methods of what someone would do when they're [a] law-abiding citizen and he's met with laughter and scorn... he decides to take things into his own hands.”
Considering the gritty vibe of the last year’s live-action reboot, Amell’s comments seem to fit the tone the studio hit on in the first film. Amell has proven time and time again to have some killer action chops thanks to Arrow, so even if the movie is bad, it sounds like Casey Jones could be one of the saving graces.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to Amell as Casey Jones?
