Two of The CW’s superheroes are teaming up on the big screen for an original sci-fi flick, and here’s the first intel for Code 8.

The two young superhero stars, who are also cousins (in case the names didn’t give it away), raised $1.7 million on Indiegogo for the project a while back. Now production is officially underway in Toronto. The Amells will be joined by co-stars Sung Kang (Fast and the Furious franchise), Kari Matchett (Maudie), Greg Bryk (Frontier) and Aaron Abrams (Hannibal). The Amells are slated to produce, and star, in the film. Jeff Chan is directing.

Here’s the pitch via Variety:

Code 8 is set in a world where 4 percent of the population is born with varying supernatural abilities, but instead of being billionaires or superheroes, most “specials” face discrimination and live in poverty, often resorting to crime in a world now carefully monitored by drones, guardians, and the police. Robbie Amell’s character is struggling to pay for his ailing mother’s health treatment and lured into a lucrative criminal world by Stephen Amell’s character, who works for a drug lord.

Stephen plays Oliver Queen on Arrow, while Robbie had a co-starring role as Firestorm on The Flash (he also starred in the short-lived CW sci-fi series The Tomorrow People).

A short film based was released last year as a proof of concept, and it’s actually pretty great. Check it out below and let us know if you’ll be looking forward to this one:
