Steven Spielberg’s hotly anticipated sci-fi movie Ready Player One has finally found its male lead.
Deadline reports that up-and-coming young actor Tye Sheridan (Mud, Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, X-Men: Apocalypse ) has been cast as Wade Owen Watts/Parzival alongside Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel) as Samantha/Art3mis and Ben Mendelsohn (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) as the villainous Nolan Sorrento.
The Spielberg-directed movie is based on author Ernest Cline’s 2011 award-winning dystopian sci-fi novel Ready Player One, which takes place in a future where reality totally sucks, aka 2044. In order to escape said sucky reality, people are jacked up to a virtual utopia known as the OASIS.
Wade devotes his life to studying the puzzles (easter eggs) hidden inside the virtual world, puzzles that are based on the creator’s obsession with pop culture of the past that includes some 1980s goodness with Buckaroo Banzai, the Galaga arcade video game and some cool music from Rush and Def Leppard.
But when Wade comes across the first clue, he must fight for his survival against a slew of new players willing to kill to claim the ultimate prize that promises fortune and the power to control OASIS.
Produced by Warner Bros, Village Roadshow Pictures and DreamWorks, Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One will open in movie theaters on March 30, 2018.
Do you think Tye Sheridan is the perfect fit for the role of Wade?
