What started as some harmless Twitter banter back in January has led to a full-on wedding, with David Harbour as the officiant.
On January 15, Twitter user @ErickaElizabeth asked how many retweets she'd need to get for the Stranger Things actor to officiate her wedding. The following day, Harbour replied, specifying that it would have to work with his shooting schedule, he'd get to read a love letter of his own choice, and he'd get the very first slice of cake. Also, it would take 125K retweets.
While Ericka's original post got a whopping 95K retweets, Harbour's stipulation got a whopping 170K in under 24 hours. So the actor made good on his promise -- in full Chief Hopper regalia, no less.
The actor tweeted out a photo of him with the wedding party, explaining that he'd taken some time off from Twitter but still showed up to marry the happy couple. You can check out all the reactions on Twitter moments.
Despite his role on the acclaimed Stranger Things, not to mention his upcoming turn in the big-screen reboot of the Hellboy franchise, Harbour had become somewhat notorious for these retweet-based promises.
This phenomenon all started with a high school student getting Harbour to pose in her senior pictures with her for a mere 25K retweets. When that quota was met, the actor showed up with a school sweatshirt and a trombone in his hand.
In February, Harbour offered a similar challenge to Greenpeace, which ended with him doing the "Hopper dance" in front of a group of Emporer Penguins.
For now, Harbour's tweet seems to elude that his extended Twitter break was to keep him from having to gallivant all over the world on the whims of the retweet button, but it's heartwarming to see a guy make good on his word and help a couple in love start their new lives together.
Not to give anyone any ideas, but what would you have David Harbour do, assuming you had the retweets to get it done? Let us know in the comments.
