Stranger Things looks to be a bigger hit than Daredevil and Jessica Jones

It’s no shock that Netflix’s 1980’s horror love letter Stranger Things is a hit, but it turns out those plucky kids are even more popular than some of Marvel’s hottest heroes.

Business Insider reports some fresh data from SymphonyAM, which posits Stranger Things was seen by 8.2 million people in its first 16 days of release. To put that in perspective, its ahead of fellow Netflix hits Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Narcos and House of Cards. But those numbers still put it behind broad sitcom revival Fuller House and the latest season of Orange Is the New Black. But still, a bona fide hit by any measure.

If you haven’t watched the show, it’s fantastic. Basically, if you put Goonies, Poltergeist, E.T., Silent Hill and Close Encounters of the Third Kind in a blender and set it to “Awesome,” you’d get Stranger Things. The show is a tight story with great characters, and it doesn’t get lost in its own mythology — which is a nice change of pace from most modern TV shows.

Of course, we’ll note that Netflix does not release viewership data, so SymyphonyAM’s numbers could be off to a degree. But if nothing else, it still serves as a solid barometer.

Kudos to creators the Duffer Bros. for actually pulling this thing off, and to Netflix for taking a chance on it (after just about every other viable option had passed).
