Stranger Things pays homage to Nightmare on Elm Street in latest poster

Netflix has unveiled a cool new poster for the hotly anticipated second season of Stranger Things, paying homage to Wes Craven’s 1984 horror classic A Nightmare on Elm Street.

The Stranger Things poster — with an ominous tagline that reads: “If Nancy doesn’t kill the Demogorgon, it’s coming for you next” — sees Nancy Wheeler (Natalia Dyer) trying to hide from the Demogorgon as the Upside Down creature’s clawed hand reaches down for her head.

Since the Duffer Brothers’ series is a love letter to the 1980s, it’s not hard to see why this classic Nightmare on Elm Street poster, which also features a heroine named Nancy (Heather Langenkamp), served as inspiration for this Season 2 poster — complete with red lettering.

Stranger Things returns on Oct. 27 on Netflix. In the meantime, the streaming giant has launched a rewatch of the first season called "Stranger Thursdays." Take a look at the posters, and chime in with your thoughts:
