Stuff We Love: This collectible wand from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The first time I went to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park, I was thrilled to be so immersed in the beloved fantasy world. I went to all the rides and visited all the shops, unable to resist making quite a few cherished purchases that included chocolate frogs and a replica Marauder’s Map.

In addition to those items though, I had to buy another piece of the Harry Potter universe to bring back with me. I just had to pick up a wand from Ollivanders.

Fans know that in J.K. Rowling’s novels, Ollivanders wand shop is the best place for young witches and wizards to visit to receive a wand. The shop in Universal’s Hogsmeade theme park perfectly captures the magic of the store I’d read about and seen on film. I excitedly walked in and took my time going through all the different wand options. At first I was tempted to buy one of the replica wands inspired by the characters. They had everyone from Harry, Ron, and Hermione to Dumbledore and Remus Lupin.

In the end, I decided instead to go with one of the unique wand options available. These were not inspired by any character’s wand, but were made of wood based on different dates. Looking at these wands I decided that the one I liked best worked out to be the wand whose dates corresponded to my birthday.

The collectible wand is made of ash wood and if you’re familiar with Harry Potter lore, that says something about the wielder! It came in a special Ollivanders box and that’s what I use to keep the wand on display in my home. I don’t just keep it sitting out to look at though. The wand has come in handy for quite a few Halloween costumes as well.

It was hard to choose which wand to get considering the variety available, and I assume it’s even harder now since there are even more wands to choose from between both stores in the Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley theme parks. The new options include interactive wands that you can use at the parks. Even seeing all these new options available, I’m still glad I chose my unique wand. Or, I should say, I’m glad that the unique wand chose me.
