Stuff We Love: Columbia’s Han, Luke, and Leia Hoth planet jackets

Over the years and many Star Wars films, Luke, Leia, and Han have had a number of iconic looks, but for this mountain boy growing up in snow, none of them topped their Hoth planet outfits from Empire Strikes Back. And now, thanks to Columbia, I can have my very own Han parka – or a Luke or Leia vest/jacket, if I was that type of guy… and come to think of it, I do look great in white.

Honestly, it’s hard to go wrong with any of these “Omni-Heat” reflective beauties from Columbia’s new Echo Base Collection featured in the gallery below. But regardless of your particular taste, they’ll also be hard to come by; in honor of the greatest of all Star Wars films’ release year, Columbia is only selling 1,980 of each jacket, at $400 a pop.

Or perhaps you’d rather have the even-more-special deluxe edition Han parka in brown, signed by Harrison Ford himself, which retails for $1,980, with all proceeds going to help Conservation International build a healthier planet of our own (apparently Hoth is beyond saving).

Regardless of which “warmer than a tauntaun” jacket you prefer, you’ll have to act fast, because you’ll have to be one of those lucky early-risers (or late-to-go-to-bedders) who gets through to Columbia online or into one of their select stores when these babies go on sale at 12:01 a.m. ET on Dec. 8.

For me though, it’s long since been decided: a blue Han parka, replete with faux-fur trimmed hood, to finally complete the outfit I’ve longed for since 1980 (even though I live in SoCal now and will likely never have a chance to wear it).

Alas, it looks like I’m still in the market for a tauntaun, or better yet, a snow speeder, or any vehicle with a harpoon attachment really. But for now, I’ll consider it a huge win to be able to purchase what very well may be my most loved and coveted piece of winter apparel ever, whose only real competition is Snow Job’s onesie from G.I. Joe.
