Wearing geeky socks is the perfect way to add some geek cred to business casual. Despite how the rest of me is dressed, I'm representing some aspect of my geekiness with a pair of Wonder Woman or TARDIS socks. That’s why these limited-edition Star Wars socks from ThinkGeek caught my eye.
Star Wars is celebrating the 40th anniversary of A New Hope this year, and one of the ways they’re commemorating the milestone is by releasing special products like these socks. The box set features five pairs of officially licensed ladies’ socks in the low-rise style featuring characters from the movie. If one day you’re feeling the dark side, there’s a Darth Vader pair you can wear. Want to show that you have the droids everyone’s looking for? There’s a C-3PO pair and a R2-D2 pair that would be perfect to slip on! There are also pairs with Princess Leia and Chewbacca to round out the pack.
Given the chance to try these socks (disclosure: item provided by ThinkGeek for review), I found they were softer than most pairs I own and very comfortable to wear. I’ve only had them a short time, so I can’t speak to how they’ll hold up after a lot of wearing and washing, but the material doesn’t feel thin or like it’ll easily tear after a lot of use.
I prefer this short style of sock, but sometimes the cut can be too low and the sock can slide down so it bunches up. Luckily this hasn’t happened yet with these. I have high hopes that they’ll keep their shape and last for a while, depending on how much I wear them. The designs are also fun with the stylized, unique character images on top and the space imagery all around.
Even the box they come in is impressive, with its special 40th anniversary design. So much so that I’ve decided to keep it for now, though what on Earth I’m going to use it for I have no idea! The box even states what limited edition number it is. Mine has a label revealing it is 2,755 of 3,600.
If you’re a Star Wars fan and you like the low-rise sock style, you probably want to check these out, whether or not you need new threads on your feet! The box set is selling for $17.99 on ThinkGeek’s website.
