When I first visited Universal Studios’ Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park, I was impressed by how much it made me feel like I was a part of the magical world I’d been visiting in books and movies for so long. While I had hoped, I don’t think I was prepared for just how much every part, no matter how small, felt like it could have come from that world. Everything was as similar to its fictional counterpart as it could be. Perhaps the most surprising thing for me, though, was how much I came to love collecting cards from chocolate frogs at the park!
Fans of Harry Potter know that in the franchise chocolate frogs, which move thanks to a spell, are a popular candy that comes with a card featuring a famous witch or wizard. These cards feature an image of the individual on the front and a small bit of information about them on the back, and are often collected by people like the students at Hogwarts. The cards that come with the non-moving chocolate frogs you can buy at Universal’s Wizarding World are very similar — though they lack the magical quality that allows the people in each image to disappear every once in a while from the card.
When I first visited the theme park and received a Hogwarts House founder on a card with my first chocolate frog, I thought it might be fun to see if I could get a different founder with another frog, and I did! I became eager to try and complete the set by collecting all four. I was lucky in that I never received a repeat, and my quest was soon completed. I had a lot more fun collecting them than I thought I would, and now I proudly display the cards for Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Salazar Slytherin, and Helga Hufflepuff in my home.
If collecting cards with the House founders isn’t appealing to you, they’re not the only ones featured on cards right now. Dumbledore is also on a card, and recently Gilderoy Lockhart joined the group. I look forward to expanding my search to these two cards next time I’m at the park!
You don’t have to visit the park to get one of these cards, either. You can buy a pack of four chocolate frogs online that guarantees you’ll get all the House founder cards. That might definitely save you money and be the best way to get cards if you can't make the trip to the park. However, if you can make the trip, I think it's worth waiting and trying to collect them while you're there so you can experience the magic of the quest in person!
