Stuff We Love: The Force is with these geeky Star Wars pancake molds

There’s nothing quite as fun as figuring out how to add a bit of geekiness to all different aspects of life, especially when it comes to food. I love following a recipe or using an appliance to combine fandom with any meal. For the last few years one of my favorite kitchen items to use to do this are my Star Wars pancake molds, which you can use beyond breakfast to add the Force to food!

The pancake molds were released by Williams-Sonoma a few years ago in two sets. There was one for characters and one for starships. The characters included the shapes of Yoda, Darth Vader, and a stormtrooper, while the starships included a TIE fighter, an X-wing, and the Millennium Falcon. They are made of steel and have handles that make them easy to move when using them. I’ve used the molds multiple times, and they work really well. They’ll give you the Star Wars shapes you’re looking for every time! Cleaning them is also easy, though you’ll want to make sure you pay attention to every little area. Sometimes batter can get somewhere hard to reach on the mold, but it’s nothing a good soak can’t fix.

There’s no reason to limit your use of these to pancakes, either. You can try these on any food that you want to shape. My other food of choice to use these molds for is turkey burgers. Yes, after a while I became bored making my ground turkey the usual shape for burgers and thought “Why not give the molds a try?” So sometimes my dinner also gets a bit of a Star Wars twist. While it makes them perhaps not as ideal to eat as actual burgers, since the shapes aren’t great for buns, they make dinner a lot more fun!

These versions of the molds are a little hard to find these days, but there are options on Amazon for both the classic characters and ships if you want to give them a try. There's also a brand-new Williams Sonoma silicone set of four that includes R2-D2.
