Sometimes when you watch a movie or TV show, or play a video game, you suddenly hear music that sticks with you. Whether it’s the whole soundtrack or just a piece here and there, you’ll probably revisit that music multiple times and never cease to enjoy it because it transports you back to a world you love. Sometimes, though, I like to listen to my favorite songs with a twist, and that leads me to discover amazing covers created by people who love the music as much as I do. Recently this search for unique renditions of my favorite geeky classics has led me to the wonderful work of the Vitamin String Quartet.

The Vitamin String Quartet is a group of musicians who cover songs by popular artists like Lady Gaga and Kanye West, as well as music from movies, video games, and TV. It’s the latter that I listen to the most and that first caught my attention. They’ve covered a range of different properties, some through individual songs and others through whole albums. They have a beautiful Tribute to Star Wars album and magical Tribute to Harry Potter. They also have various compilations, including two geek wedding albums. These feature amazing arrangements of pieces like the “Love Theme” from Superman and “Merry-Go-Round of Life” from Studio Ghibli's Howl’s Moving Castle.

Speaking of Studio Ghibli, soon you’ll be able to enjoy even more of their takes on those lovely soundtracks. It was announced in October that Vitamin String Quartet would be releasing a tribute album called The World of Studio Ghibli featuring 12 tracks with music from Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, and more. The album will be released Nov. 24 and available for download Dec. 1.

You can do more than just listen to Vitamin String Quartet’s creations, too. They also offer sheet music on their website so you can try your hand at their arrangements.

Vitamin String Quartet offers a fun new way to enjoy the geeky classics we all know and love. You can check for their latest updates on Facebook and listen to some of their work on Spotify.
