Star Trek: The Next Generation is turning 25 this year (where has the time gone?), and what better way to celebrate a quarter century than getting to see all our fave Next Gen characters—and the U.S.S. Enterprise-D—in stunning high-def glory?

We even have a tantalizing sneak peek at how AMAZING the finished product looks on Blu-ray.

We've already talked about some of the amazing technicalities involved in order to bring Capt. Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), Cmdr. William T. Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and the entire cast and crew of the Enterprise into stunning high definition (with a 7.1 DTS Master Audio track to boot). So we're not gonna repeat ourselves here.

We will add, though, that after seeing this cool before-and-after video, we're thrilled to see that Star Trek: The Next Generation on Blu-ray looks frakkin' amazing.

Have a look!

Star Trek: The Next Generation — The Next Level will hit stores on Jan. 31, 2012. The sampler set includes the feature-length version of the pilot, ''Encounter at Far Point'' (parts 1 and 2), the season-three episode "Sins of the Father" and the wonderfully touching season-five episode "The Inner Light."

All seven seasons (a whopping 178 episodes) are set to be released later in 2012.

We know we'll be getting our hands on them—will you? And what do you think of the stunning HD makeover?
