After nabbing Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ John Boyega as one of the movie’s leads, Deadline now reports that Legendary Pictures is eyeing Scott Eastwood for a key role in Pacific Rim 2.
Eastwood, who, by the way, happens to be the son of acting and directing legend Clint Eastwood, is currently a bit of a rising star. The actor was recently cast in Fast 8, directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton), and will soon be seen in director David Ayer’s hotly anticipated Suicide Squad when Warner Bros.’ comic book movie opens on Aug. 5. He’ll also appear in Oliver Stone’s Snowden on Sept. 16.
While we know Boyega will lead the charge against the Kaijus by playing the son of Idris Elba’s character from the first Pacific Rim movie -- which was directed by Guillermo del Toro -- we still don’t know what Eastwood’ s role will be if he chooses to accept the mission (oops, wrong franchise). I mean, if a deal is reached. The new movie, set for a Feb. 23, 2018, release, will begin production later this year.
Guillermo del Toro is set to return as producer for Pacific Rim 2, but directing duties have been handed over to Steven S. DeKnight (Spartacus, Daredevil). Derek Conolly, who co-wrote Jurassic World with director Colin Trevorrow, is on board to pen the action-adventure-sci-fi movie. The sequel will be produced by Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni and del Toro. Boyega and Femi Oguns will also produce under their Upper Room Productions company.
What do you think of Scott Eastwood possibly joining John Boyega for Pacific Rim 2? Are you looking forward to more Jaeger vs. Kaiju action?
