That sunken Millennium Falcon mystery solved! It's a—

We've been wondering for nearly a year what, exactly, the Millennium Falcon-shaped object at the bottom of the Baltic Sea may be. Turns out the answer may be even weirder than the speculation.

After about a week of on-site study, researchers now believe the unidentified object is probably some type of mushroom. Probably. Maybe, but there's still some weird stuff.

In June 2011 a cylindrical object was found just off the coasts of Sweden and Finland via sonar, while more sweeps found a Millennium Falcon-shaped object nearby. The find has baffled scientists ever since, with opinions ranging from rock formation to UFO, so a team from OceanX was finally sent down to investigate.

Though the object seems like a huge, strange mushroom, the team reported back some even weirder findings via the OceanX website:

First they thought it was just stone or a rock cliff, but after further observations the object appeared more as a huge mushroom, rising 3-4 meters/10-13 feet from the seabed, with rounded sides and rugged edges. The object had an egg shaped hole leading into it from the top, as an opening. On top of the object they also found strange stone circle formations, almost looking like small fireplaces. The stones were covered in something resembling soot.

The path to the object itself can be described as a runway or a downhill path that is flattened at the seabed with the object at the end of it.

If the news release itself doesn't make you think WTF, comments from the dive team leader will probably put you over the edge:

"First we thought this was only stone, but this is something else. And since no volcanic activity has ever been reported in the Baltic Sea the find becomes even stranger. As laymen we can only speculate how this is made by nature, but this is the strangest thing I have ever experienced as a professional diver," Ocean X founder Peter Lindberg said.

Since the dive raised about as many questions as it answered, the team brought back some samples that have already been sent for further study. What are you thinking? Alien mushroom?
